The Rotary will have a Speech Contest that any high school student is eligible to participate in as long as they are not a child of a Rotarian. They will write a speech about this year’s Rotary motto, “Rotary Shares” and speak 5-8 minutes, without notes. The winner will receive $200 and move on to the regional contest. For more information email Robert M. University of Lousville, Young Leaders Academy challenges sstudent leaders to engage one another in exploring and experiencing diverse viewpoints while thinking critically to develop their leadership potential. The academy will take place on the U of L’s Belknap Campus on July 9-12, 2008. Each academy participant will receive a full scholarship to cover housing expenses in a U of L residence hall, meals, books and other conference materials. For more information: www.mcconnellcenter.org/civicseducation. Applications due by April 15, 2008.

Midway College Pathways Scholarship is a scholarsip awarded to minority women in the state of Kentucky who want to further their education. Recipients are awarded up to $10,000 a year. Eligible students will be a minority female, be a resident of Kentucky, ACT score of 18 or higher, GPA of at least a 2.2, have applied for and completed all necessary Federal and State Financial Aid documentation, be enrolled full-time, accept and complete federal work study on Midway’s campus for each semester of scholarship eligibility.Â
