Work Ethic & Expectations

I have some concerns for the 4th Grade as a whole.
First, students need to practice FOLLOWING ALONG when another person is READING. This keeps everyone “on the same page”, encourages fluent (smooth) reading, and prevents students from being distracted by other things around them.
Second, students are turning in written responses without CAPITAL LETTERS at the beginning of sentences, or on proper nouns, without PUNCTUATION, and often times, answers are not written in COMPLETE SENTENCES. If the question is “What are five ways for Carrie to improve her reading?”, student responses should begin…”Five ways for Carrie to improve her reading are…”.
Finally, many students are laying their heads down during instruction. If your child is not getting enough rest, I would encourage you to insist they go to bed earlier. They should also be eating breakfast – at home or school – so they have the energy needed to get the day started. “Lazy” body form creates “lazy” brains!
Thank you for reading through these concerns, and thank you for taking time to speak to your child about each of them!
