This week we will be learning all about propaganda and how Paul Revere used it in the Boston Massacre. You may not guess that only 5 people died during this event. With a name like the Boston Massacre, many people assume it was much bigger than what it really was. That was Paul’s whole idea- to make the British look even worse than they already did! I smell a war coming on…..
The Civil War is upon us… well at least it is in Mrs. Kincaid’s social studies class. On December 1st students were asked to make their own compromises on historic issues such as statehood and slavery. Until each group reached a compromise they had to interlock pinkies and stay that way! Some groups, such as the one pictured, were stuck that way for awhile.
Part of honoring our veterans is learning about the sacrifices they made for our country. As part of Clark Middle’s Veteran’s Day celebration, several guests visited Mrs. Kincaid’s social studies classes to do just that. Dr. Roberts, the keynote speaker for the CMS Veteran’s Day celebration, along with three members of the Sons of the American Revolution came to inform the students about the lives of soldiers and answer students question. All students were excited and had excellent questions ready for the speakers.
Clark Middle 8th graders received a special visit from current Kentucky State Senator R.J Palmer on November 4th. All 230 8th graders made their way to the Clark Middle library to take part in the Senator’s “Back to School” program. They had the opportunity to receive materials from the Senator as well as have a question and answer time with him. Eighth grader Madison Stevenson said, “It was really cool that we got a Senator to come to our school.” The school was provided with materials and videos that the students will get to use in class for the rest of the year.
