Describe what happens after the rumble when Dally and Pony go to see Johnny?  What happens to Dally as a result of his sadness? 

Pony gets very depressed and begins to think that he killed Bob.  Explain the conversation between Randy and Pony as well as the trial that Pony testifies in? 

Describe why Pony wrote the story, The Outsiders. 

Did you like the book?  Why or why not?

Describe what Johnny and Pony did in the church to pass time for the few days before Dally showed up.   Explain the meaning of the poem that Pony remembered.

Explain using textual evidence how Johnny and Dally ended up in the hospital?  What was Jonny’s condition? 

Infer why you think Dally wanted the knife in the hospital. Support with one piece of textual evidence. 

Pony spoke with Randy and Cherry about the incident.  What can you conclude from those conversations?

After reading chapters 1-4:

Describe the difference between the Socs and the Greasers.

Which character do you relate to the most and why? Use text evidence to explain.

How did meeting Cherry and Marcia (plot event) cause Pony and Johnny a lot of trouble?  Was Johnny’s actions justified or not? Use text evidence to support. 

Would you have stayed and faced the consequences, or would you have left like Johnny and Pony did with Dally’s advice? Explain.

Imagine that an atomic bomb has been dropped in a neighboring state.  The radiation has spread into Clark County, and we have been ordered to remain inside this school until further notice.  We no longer have electricity and no cell phones work.  We can’t go outside since the radioactive materials have spread through the air causing anyone who breathes it death.  We have moved into the the gym since that is our “safe place” for Conkwright.  The last thing we saw on the TV was, “We are working to clear the air and return life to normal; however, until we can complete the task, you MUST remain inside and DO NOT GO OUTSIDE!”

How long will we have to stay inside?  Did you grab anything on your way to the gym? How much food is in the cafeteria? How will we cook it and ration it out?  Is the water safe?  What will you do to pass the time? 

Write three journal entries (at least a 1/2 page each) to yourself, like a diary entry, telling how you are handling the situation.  Consider the questions from above.  Make sure you date your journal entries with the correct date.  How long will we have to remain in the school?  Will we get out? If so, when and how?  Be realistic and creative.

Do you think you will read the third book?  What was your favorite part and why?  Would you recommend this series to other 7th graders?  Why or why not?

The end of the book is filled with constant action.  Why does the launch pad pause with Katniss inside instead of launching her to the arena immediately?  Katniss and Peeta quickly find allies.  Why does Finnick have to save Peeta’s life?  What is the arena?  What happens at certain times?  Once Johanna realizes the careers are attacking, how does she save Katniss?  Once extracted from the arena, what all does Katniss learn?  (Peeta, district 12, who she is to the rebellion?)

Once Katniss realizes that she will be the female to return to the games for the Quarter Quell, why does she go to Haymitch?  What do they both agree on?  How did Haymitch win the hunger games? Who was Maysilee Donner?  Who does Katniss realize is the male Avox?  Describe the private training sessions Katniss and Peeta have with the Gamemakers?  During the interview process, explain Katniss’ dress?

Write a DETAILED summary of these chapters.

Why does President Snow come to visit Katniss before the tour?  What is a Quarter Quell and what information does Haymitch disclose off the train at  a stop that will change her life forever?  Describe the first stop on the tour.  Where was it?  What happens and why?  Why is Peeta upset about the marriage proposal?
